Here I Go!

I started a journey about a year ago, to become a published children's book author.
Little did I know that what started as a, "that would be really awesome to be able to
do one day," would turn into a, "I am definitely going to do this, and please God
help me!"

Last Spring (2010) I had a desire building up within me to write a children's book.
I thought it fantastical and whimsical, but the desire only grew. Being a fervent
follower of Jesus Christ, I gave that desire over to Him as I try to do in all areas
of my life. I prayed, "Lord, if this something you would like me to do, then give
me a great idea." Only two days later, an idea dropped into my head. I ran the
idea past my then two and a half year old daughter. We had a delightful conver-
sation that inspired my first story. It took me all of 24 hours to finish the first draft,
all 1500 words. For those of you who don't know, that's way too long for a picture
book. I found a Christian freelance editor online by the name of Pam Halter who
gave me wonderful advice and insight. Let's just say, I learned a ton from her.
I rewrote my story many times and finally condensed it down to 800 or so words.

Now, to get my story published. It would be a piece of cake. I just knew it. I briefly
considered self publishing, until my husband voiced his opinion that we should
have it published by a traditional publishing house. There's only one catch to
this, to have a traditional publishing house even take a look at what you have
written, you need a literary agent. So, my search for the right agency and agent
ensued. That was last spring, and here I am today, agent-less (yes, I made up
that word).

However, through this searching, I have learned an invaluable amount of information
and still have so much to learn. I am grateful for this process and am committed to
continuing it, despite the hurdles and obstacles that inevitably come. It's an exciting
journey, and I invite you to follow me as I endeavor to break into the world of the
published author.
